University of Michigan says two campus solar arrays are up and running

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) — The first two solar arrays are up and running on the University of Michigan’s campus.

The two arrays consist of rooftop panels and a solar carport at the North Campus Facilities Services Building. Its part of the University’s multi-year plan called “Maize Rays”. The two configurations are generating enough electricity to power nearly 100 homes. The goal is to expand the solar capacity to 25 megawatts across all campuses. That would be enough to power roughly 3,000 homes annually.

“These first solar installations are a clear example of how we’re putting our carbon neutrality commitment into action,” said Geoff Chatas, executive vice president and chief financial officer. “It’s a tangible project that directly contributes to our sustainability goals, and we’re excited to see this initiative continue to grow.”…
