Men’s Soccer Battles to Scoreless Draw at Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Shaw University men’s soccer team turned in a gritty defensive performance Wednesday evening, earning a 0-0 draw on the road against Methodist University at Duggins Soccer Stadium.

Goalkeeper Joel Goerner Tellez was the story of the night for the Bears, recording a career-high 14 saves to keep the Monarchs off the board. Methodist outshot Shaw 23-2, but Goerner Tellez stood tall between the posts, stopping chance after chance to preserve his first shutout of the season.

Shaw managed a pair of attempts on the evening, one from Tanas Thorne in the first half and another from Juan Guerra in the second, but the Monarch defense held firm.
