‘We will do whatever it takes’: Gov. Lee talks National Guard deployment in Memphis

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee addressed the impending deployment of the National Guard to Memphis during a visit to Knoxville.

Lee addressed the Knoxville Chamber on Thursday where he hailed the region’s recovery from the impacts of Hurricane Helene and the thriving business environment. Following the event, he fielded questions about the state’s collaboration with the Trump administration in an effort to reduce crime in Memphis.

The governor said he has been working with FBI Director Kash Patel for months to develop a plan for the city, now known as “Operation Viper.” Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn said earlier this week that the operation has already resulted in more than 500 arrests and 100 indictments…
