Fatal Fire in Fort Pierce, Explosion-Like Sound Preceded Blaze That Claimed One Life

A mobile home fire in Fort Pierce on Monday night has tragically resulted in one fatality. Responding to the emergency, St. Lucie County Fire District (SLCFD) crews were faced with a significant blaze at the scene on Angle Road and East Joy Lane. It was around 9:30 p.m. when the fire was first reported, according to details shared by CBS12 News.

Local residents were quick to report hearing an explosion-like sound before the fire broke out. Kenneth Gross, a neighbor, told CBS12 that he was preparing to go to bed when he was shaken by the loud noise. “It sounded like propane tanks exploding, we ran outside to see what it was because it shook the whole house, floors and everything,” Gross said. Another local, Jacob Kennedy, expressed the helplessness felt by the neighbors who could do nothing but watch as firefighters attempted to aggressively combat the fire.

The one victim was discovered deceased during the firefighting efforts inside the home. As fire crews worked through the night, the mobile home was left with just its framework remaining – a stark indication of the fire’s intensity captured in scene photos. The identification of the victim is pending, and at this stage, officials have not indicated whether foul play is suspected in the incident.
