California Fish and Wildlife officials said they busted a large group of poachers and seized hundreds of illegally caught Dungeness crabs in San Francisco last month.
Fish and Wildlife said in a Facebook post Thursday that officers caught the poachers at Thornton Beach just after 9 p.m. on Aug. 30 following a CalTIP hotline report. What officials thought was about 30 people turned out to be close to 45, according to officials.
The people were illegally taking Dungeness crabs by hand under lights during the closed season, officials said. Some of the crabs were smaller than the legal size limit, prohibited from being taken at any time…
