DENVER (KDVR) — A 45-year-old man has pleaded guilty to assaulting an “at-risk” adult with a tree branch near Junction Place and Goose Creek Path in the city of Boulder in September 2023.
The man, identified as Derek Jordan, assaulted the victim, identified as Marius Suffian, with the broken tree branch as the victim was walking home from work, striking the victim more than a dozen times — including multiple times in the face and while the victim was on the ground — the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday.

Suffian suffered serious bodily injury from the attack, including a nasal fracture and a complex facial laceration, with a laceration to his tear duct.
Jordan, who the Boulder Police Department said at the time was believed to have been living amongst the city’s unhoused community, is now facing a stipulated range of 25 to 32 years in state prison after pleading guilty on Thursday to one count of felony first-degree assault of an at-risk person, according to the Boulder DA…
