SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A recent incident involving a Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Dupty cars being crashed into early Wednesday morning is being used as a highlight for state officials to address growing concerns and impacts of recidivism.
During Thusday’s police briefing, Minnehaha County Chief Deputy Jeff Gromer said a deputy was parked off the roadway facing east near Highway 38 and Western Avenue in Hartford when a vehicle left the westbound lane, crossed the eastbound lane and struck the deputy’s car at a high speed. You can see the damage to the car from the crash in photo above.

“It’s really hard to express how fortunate we are that the deputy wasn’t hurt any worse than he was,” Gromer said during briefing.
Authorities said the driver of the vehicle, Kira Blackbear, 43, was found to have a drug pipe in plain view on the passenger seat. The pipe tested positive for marijuana and methamphetamine, which Blackbear said she last used on Tuesday.
