Rezoning for property with ducks denied at Fort Wayne Board of Zoning Appeals

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — One Fort Wayne family received concerns as they requested a rezoning to allow ducks on their property at the Fort Wayne Board of Zoning Appeals meeting on Thursday.

The owner, Susan Lackey, has owned this flock of ducks since May, and says she has been using them for educational purposes through what they call “Duck Days.” Lackey says 10-12 homeschooled kids benefit from the lessons as they learn about sustainability, responsibility, animal behavior, and biology.

This all started about a week ago when Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control responded to noise complaints from these ducks. According to the city ordinance, livestock are not allowed within city limits…
