Man sentenced to 46 years for attempted murder after ex-girlfriend shot in 2024

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A man convicted of shooting his ex-girlfriend in April 2024 has been sentenced to 46 years in prison.

Jevess Deron Craigmire, 28, was convicted of attempted first-degree murder, especially aggravated robbery, carjacking, unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted violent felon and employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony in August. He was sentenced to 46 years in prison without the possibility of parole on Sept. 19.

A release from the District Attorney General’s office said Craigmire had recently moved out after his relationship with his girlfriend ended. One morning, when the victim came home, she found Craigmire waiting for her with a handgun. Craigmire fired 16 rounds at her, hitting her several times, then “pistol-whipped” her as she tried to crawl under a vehicle. He then stole her car and fled.

“This Office will continue to aggressively prosecute gun crimes and hold violent offenders accountable,” said DA Charme Allen.

The DA’s office added that Craigmire has two prior convictions for aggravated assault. This means he was facing 25 to 40 years for the attempted first-degree murder charge. His firearms conviction also carries a mandatory six-year sentence that must run consecutively to the attempted murder sentence…
