WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Wilmington Downtown, Inc. (WDI) is inviting the public to an information and feedback session about an expanded outdoor street dining and retail proposal on Front Street.
According to WDI, the proposal would expand outdoor dining and retail in the 00 blocks of North and South Front Street on select weekends, and is designed to support “brick-and-mortar businesses” by temporarily closing on-street parking spaces or closing the blocks to create an outdoor dining and shopping experience.
The proposal objectives include:
- Supporting downtown restaurants and retailers by increasing their capacity to serve patrons
- Creating additional outdoor gathering spaces for residents and visitors
- Providing opportunities for live acoustic music and community programming
- Strengthening economic activity and reinforcing downtown Wilmington’s character and vitality
