ELKTON – The rekindling of an earlier fire extensively damaged the landmark Rookies Hilltop Inn near Elkton on Friday morning, according to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal.
An employee discovered the initial fire at the bar-and-restaurant business in the 800 block of Hilltop Road, north of Elkton, and called 911 at approximately midnight, prompting area volunteer fire companies to respond, fire officials said. Singerly Volunteer Fire Company of Elkton served as the on-scene command unit, fire officials added.
