Oral arguments heard in former Hinds County assistant principal appeal

HINDS CO., Miss. (WLBT) – It’s been over three years since Toby Price was fired from Gary Road Elementary School for reading a children’s book titled “I Need a New Butt” to a group of second graders.

During oral arguments before the Mississippi Court of Appeals, Joel Dillard, Price’s attorney, said similar books can be found in the school’s library.

“Every single problem she had with the book that Mr. Price read is also found in the other books that are in the record that were in the library. So, whether it’s the child nudity or the adult nudity, whether it’s the word ‘butt’, guess what? Chicken butt. That’s the height of second grade boy humor and children need that as part of their school environment to encourage them that reading is fun,” Dillard argued…
