“Chutes and Ladders”: STL working to update outdated zoning policies for the first time since the 1950s

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – Archaic, confusing and complicated zoning policies are a common complaint among businesses and investors in the city.

Sarah Fisher ran into hurdles from the start when she opened up her coffee shop, Good Strangers on Cherokee Street, earlier this year.

“One of the things we encountered right away was the need for a conditional use hearing to apply for necessary permits,” Fisher said. “It actually set us back several months.”…
