Copley residents respond to tornado siren retirement

COPLEY — The Copley Township Board of Trustees Sept. 8 responded to residents concerned with a recent announcement on social media that the township’s outdoor tornado sirens ceased operation Sept. 2.

Trustee Bruce Koellner said the township’s current alert system through Regroup — a mass notification system that sends location-based alerts via text, email or push notifications to people in danger zones and replaces traditional, less precise methods like outdoor sirens — is more effective and reaches more residents with specific information than tornado sirens.
