County discusses nonemergency medical transportation

DOWNTOWN AKRON — Summit County Council discussed two pieces of legislation related to nonemergency medical transportation (NET) at the Sept. 15 meeting, which will be voted on next week.

The first resolution would confirm the award of professional service contracts and authorize the executive to disburse funds — including those that exceed an aggregate of $75,000 — to all NET providers operating under contract with the Executive’s Department of Job and Family Services (DJFS) in Federal Fiscal Year 2026 from Oct. 1, 2025 through Sept. 30, 2026, with two options to renew for additional one-year terms, in an estimated total amount not to exceed $7 million.

According to officials, DJFS coordinates and monitors the NET services for eligible Summit County Medicaid clients, which provide state-mandated transportation services for Medicaid eligible Summit County residents to nonemergency medical appointments such as check-ups and pharmacy visits…
