It’s back to the drawing board for the NYSDOT and the the Kensington Expressway project. It has been announced that there will be a hard reset on the project, which many are considering a major win for Buffalo. After massive pushback on the tunnel plans, the community has spoken, and the message was heard loud and clear. Buffalo deserves better. Buffalo deserves the best. The East Side needs to be reunited instead of torn apart even further.
After learning about this exciting development, Mayoral Candidate Michael Gainer stood with members of the East Side Parkways Coalition to answer media questions and relay his own thoughts and opinions on the matter.
Gainer stated, “This decision by the NYSDOT is a massive win for our community. It demonstrates the power of common people when they come together to articulate a vision for their community and their city.”
Over the last two years, Gainer has rallied against the DOT’s egregious plans, while backing the work of the East Side Parkways Coalition (ESPC). The organization even went so far as to raise funds to retain counsel and challenge the NYSDOT in State Supreme Court. It was Judge Colaiacovo who ultimately concluded that the failure of the NYSDOT to complete an EIS was both “arbitrary and capricious.”…
