FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Developers of the Google data center under construction in Fort Wayne have been granted a permit to fill in over two acres of protected wetlands that currently exist on land where the $2 billion facility will be located.
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management issued the permit on September 16, following a 30 day public comment period that ended on September 11. No public hearings were held regarding the permit request. Now that the permit has been granted, developers have two years to fulfill the obligations contained in it.

The data center is located at 6015 Adams Center Road, near the intersection of E. Paulding Road and Adams Center Road.
The permit applicant, Hatchworks, LLC said the wetland areas will be used to construct five additional data center buildings, along with associated infrastructure.
In return, Hatchworks, LLC plans to purchase 2.48 acres of unforested wetlands and 1.58 acres of forested wetlands from The Openings Wetland Mitigation Bank, according to the IDEM public notice to compensate for the wetlands destruction on the data center site…
