WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina says it saw record demand for food assistance during July and August, serving more than 81,000 individuals. The non-profit says its the highest number so far this year.
That figure represents more than double the number of neighbors served during the same period in 2022, according to CEO Eric Aft.
“We’re seeing families struggling more than ever to pay for food, rent and child care,” Aft said. “As a result, they’re leaning heavily on food bank resources to get what they need.”…
