LAPD names officer who shot armed man in Boyle Heights

The Los Angeles Police Department has identified the officer who shot a man who was allegedly armed in Boyle Heights on Sunday night.

Officer Brian Cuba opened fire on 30-year-old Francisco Garcia in the alley of an apartment complex in the 2400 block of Boulder Street around 10:45 p.m., according to a police news release issued Thursday.

Police said Garcia had been pursued by officers after allegedly being seen with an open container of alcohol. During the encounter, he “produced a handgun from his waistband area,” prompting Officer Cuba to fire, LAPD said…
