Mayor Petty, You’ve Overstayed Your Welcome

To those who aren’t as well-versed in the goings on of Worcester as I am, the city recently held their mayoral preliminary elections to narrow down the field of candidates and among those chosen is the long-time mayor of Worcester, Joseph M. Petty. The man has held on tightly with all his might to his title for nearly fourteen years and is now running for his eighth, two-year term as mayor. But longevity in office does not always translate to progress, and in Petty’s case, his grip on power feels more like a hindrance than a help. Worcester is in desperate need of fresh leadership that will respond to the needs of the city and its people, rather than a figurehead of a mayor who no longer addresses vital issues that have been growing over time and instead, contributes to them…
