Fort Worth’s boarding home unit is trying to keep up with skyrocketing numbers

Fort Worth is trying to keep up with skyrocketing numbers of boarding homes since it passed its ordinance two years ago.

A building is classified as a boarding home if it houses at least three elderly and/or disabled people who are unrelated to the owner, offers at least one service, like laundry or cooking, and does not provide personal care, according to the city’s website.

The city passed an ordinance in 2023 in an effort to keep track of boarding homes and keep them safe and clean for residents. It requires operators to pay for a permit and annual renewals, allowing for a team to inspect them for code and living standards…
