LCSO hosts news conference after deputy shoots and kills suspect in South Lubbock

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office was expected to provide an update on Thursday regarding the deputy-involved shooting that killed 60-year-old Jose Luis Nunez Morales in the 9100 block of Highway 87.

EverythingLubbock.com previously reported the shooting happened on Friday, September 12 around 10:50 a.m.

LCSO said deputies received a 911 call stating Morales had been drinking and was carrying a gun. When deputies found Morales, they told him to put his hands up. According to LCSO, Morales “disregarded those orders, reached to his right side and produced a handgun, creating an imminent threat.” A deputy fired his gun at Morales. Deputies on scene rendered first aid until EMS arrived and took Morales to University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
