OZARK, Mo. (KOAM) — Ozark Police and EMS responded to a 911 call after a copperhead bit a runner on the Finley River Greenway Trail near the Ozark Career Center.
The City of Ozark state in a release, “Thankfully, the runner is okay after going to the hospital. We want to remind everyone to be wildlife aware and stay alert, especially in wooded areas or near the river.”
How to spot a copperhead:
- Hourglass-shaped crossbands on their bodies (like Hershey kisses)
- Grayish brown to pinkish tan color
What to do if you are bitten:
- Call 911 or get help immediately
- Stay calm
- Take a picture of the snake (if safe and possible). The runner took the photo!

Although no copperheads have been reported along the newly opened Tin Cup Trail, it does run along Shoal Creek just as the Ozark Park Trail along James River.
