Pierce County Plagued by Weekend Violence: Shootings, High-Speed Chases, and Self-Defense Homicide Reported

Pierce County had a violent weekend, according to an update from the local sheriff’s department on September 16th, comprising multiple shooting incidents and a self-defense homicide case where a homeowner protected his family from an intruder; the officials also dealt with two high-speed pursuits, one involving a drug dealer and the other a teenager driving a stolen vehicle.

In the early hours of September 12th, a traffic stop initiated by deputies escalated into a chase after a 44-year-old male suspect, driving a vehicle with no license plates, fled the scene upon deputies discovering drug paraphernalia and recognizing the driver was under the influence, this turn of events leading to the discovery of drugs and a subsequent arrest after the suspect halted and complied with enforcement commands. The deputies recovered 587 Xanax pills, scales, 27 grams of cocaine, and brass knuckles from the suspect’s vehicle, resulting in charges that included DUI, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and eluding, among other felonies.
