PORT ST. LUCIE — A room full of veterans, family, friends and community members gathered together to commemorate the first-ever birthday celebration of Sgt. Ardie R. Copas, a Medal of Honor recipient from Fort Pierce, whose legacy lives on through the state veterans’ nursing home in Port St. Lucie bearing his name.
For his daughter, Shyrell Copas, the day was defined as both emotional and historic.
