Island Brewing Supporters Start Fundraiser for Legal Expenses Over Live Music Lawsuit

A Carpinteria couple filed a lawsuit last Friday against the City of Carpinteria and Island Brewing Company over noise from the brewery’s outdoor live music. Supporters of the brewery have started an online fundraiser to support legal fees for the local business.

Stephen and Mary Eileen Marcussen, Carpinteria residents, have retained Eric V. Rowen, a real estate litigation lawyer, who filed a public nuisance complaint in Santa Barbara Superior Court over alleged violations of municipal noise ordinances and permit conditions.

Island Brewing Company, a family-run and award-winning microbrewery, is located at 5049 6th Street in Carpinteria bordering railroad tracks against the Carpinteria State Beach Campground between Linden and Maple Avenues. The majority of the area is within Carpinteria’s downtown hub with restaurants and shops, while a few residential areas on Maple Ave are combined with industrial buildings…
