Cold front barreling toward Texas brings plummeting temps, rain chances

A true fall-season cold front is barreling toward Texas next week. So far, it’s been a hot start to season of pumpkin spice and burnt orange leaves. But just as astronomical fall marks the beginning of the season September 22, forecasters say several Texas cities can brace for a decent drop in temperatures – both overnight and in the afternoons.

Cold fronts have struggled to reach the inner depths of Texas so far this season. While North Texas and Panhandle towns have seen reprieves from 90-degree days, none of these cool bursts have brought much relief to Central or South Texas. While it won’t be time to break out the winter coats just yet, it seems some of these overlooked cities may finally see some cold-front action.

The Farmers’ Almanac, which has been guiding folks for more than 100 years, predicts unseasonably chilly weather across the South Central U.S. in the final week of September. Will this finally be the time when fall feels set in over Texas? The National Weather Service models offer some promise for some regions, but there’s still a lot to figure out as next week approaches.
