Seattle mayor plans to offset federal cuts with budget focused on safety net

SEATTLE — Seattle’s mayor plans to backfill the anticipated loss of federal funding in his upcoming budget proposal to preserve the safety net of programs that protect immigrants, provide shelter space, and offer food assistance.

During a press conference at Seattle City Hall on Friday, Mayor Bruce Harrell outlined several additional investments he plans to include in his 2026 proposed budget plan.
