Detainee dies hours after being booked into Buncombe County jail; SBI notified

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office says it has notified the State Bureau of Investigation after a jail inmate died hours after he was taken into custody.

Christopher Morrow was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility on Sept. 16 just after 10 p.m. on an injuring/tampering with a vehicle charge, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office on Thursday, Sept. 18.

Just before 4 a.m. on Sept. 17, authorities say Morrow was found unconscious in his cell and taken to Mission Hospital. He was pronounced dead just before 3 p.m. the same day…
