South Carolina sprinter makes history at World Athletics Championships

TOKYO, JAPAN – For the first time in history, an American woman has taken the sprinters double. On Friday morning, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden ran the fastest 200-meter time of the year, winning her second gold medal of the world championships. This feat has only been accomplished four times in the history of the women’s track and field world championships.

“I didn’t come into this knowing the history,” said Jefferson-Wooden. “Now, I’m putting two-and-two together and I’m kinda freaking out.”
