Glenbeigh Center of Erie strives to eliminate stigma with Recovery Month celebration

Admitting you need help can be difficult, but local organizations are eliminating that stigma and encouraging people to start their road to recovery.

The Glenbeigh Center of Erie hosted its annual Recovery Month celebration at the Booker T. Washington Center Friday, inviting over 25 vendors from local health and human service agencies.

Non-profit organization brings free healthcare to community

One event organizer said the event is a way for people to celebrate their recoveries with substance abuse and let people know there are always resources to help.

Jay Burrows, program director at Glenbeigh Center of Erie, said, “It’s as simple as just asking for help. Coming to an event like this is a great resource for that because you can go to any one of the tables that are here.”

Tiffany Walker, Certified Recovery Specialist, said, “My recovery is not in anonymity, and I don’t like the stigma. My mom always taught me in life that if you have to hide something, you know it’s wrong.”…
