GUILFORD COUNTY, NC — A North Carolina man is facing serious charges after the disappearance of a 36-year-old woman turned into a homicide investigation, Guilford County deputies confirmed this week.
The Suspicious Activity Call
On Sept. 9 around 4:30 p.m., deputies were called to the 1200 block of Blackberry Ridge Drive in High Point after reports of suspicious activity.
Following interviews and a search of the area, investigators discovered a crime scene and collected evidence.
Missing Person to Homicide Case
The missing woman was identified as Amber Marie Schimmelpfenning, 36, who was last seen on Sept. 9 around 12 a.m.
Detectives were initially unable to find her, but the case soon escalated into a missing person and homicide investigation.
Suspect Identified and Charged
Working with the Guilford County District Attorney’s Office, detectives obtained warrants for Ricky Lam, 40, on the following charges:
- Felony first-degree murder
- Felony concealment/failure to report a death
- Felony possession of a firearm by a felon
