KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Knoxville Police Department is investigating after a crash on Alcoa Highway left a woman dead early Saturday morning.
According to police, officers responded to the crash, which involved a Hyundai sedan and a tractor trailer, on northbound lanes of Alcoa Highway near Woodson Drive just before 4 a.m. The driver of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene.

Knoxville Police said the preliminary investigation suggests that the Hyundai was traveling south in the northbound lanes of Alcoa Highway when it struck the tractor trailer head-on.
As police and first responders assisted with the crash, lane closures were put in place. All lanes of Alcoa Highway have since reopened, the Tennessee Department of Transportation reported.
