Skyscraper-sized asteroid zooms past Earth

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – An asteroid spanning the size of a New York City skyscraper zoomed past Earth on Thursday, thankfully missing our planet by several hundred thousand miles.

The asteroid, dubbed FA22, was able to be seen by high-tech telescopes, but was not visible to the naked eye.

However, it was a massive rock flying through outer space. Scientists estimate the asteroid to be between 427 and 951 feet wide, making it the size of a large building, similar in size to the Washington Monument. It was also predicted to be moving at around 24,000 MPH.
