Special show features Chicago musicians at Peacock Cafe

One of the many musicians who performed at the prestigious Chicago Jazz Festival over Labor Day weekend will give a special show with his band on Saturday night at Toledo’s historic Peacock Cafe, 2007 Monroe St.

Tenor saxophonist Ryan Bills will take the stage at 9 p.m. with his group, the Ryan Bills & Ben Crino Quintet. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Cover charge is $10.

Mr. Bills, a recent Chicago transplant who grew up in Detroit, studied at Wayne State University under Toledo’s dean of jazz musicians, Gene Parker. Joining the quintet on the Peacock stage will be Mr. Parker’s son, noted jazz bassist Ray Parker, who moved back to Toledo a few years ago after performing for years at some of New York’s acclaimed jazz clubs…
