El Paso was the scene of a dramatic police pursuit on Thursday that resulted in two arrests, following a traffic stop that quickly escalated into a chase on foot and by vehicle. According to a social media post by El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte, 26-year-old Jaren Adrian Dickerson initially provided false identifying information to deputies before he decided to make a run for it, complicating matters further when Jaclyn Nicole Chavez, aged 28, took the wheel of their vehicle and attempted to escape.
Deputies had initiated the stop at the 7600 block of De Alva around 1:56 p.m. Things quickly spiraled out of their initial control with Dickerson eluding deputies on foot and Chavez taking up the escape in the vehicle. However, her freedom was short-lived as she was caught shortly after, in a turn of events involving multiple precincts’ constables that helped establish a tight perimeter. Around an hour later, Dickerson’s luck ran out when authorities located him. Despite his attempts to evade capture once more, he was tased and arrested without further incident.
Sheriff Ugarte did not mince words in his statement about the incident. He said, “The Sheriff’s Office is committed to ensuring that those who try to flee from justice are held accountable. ” He solidified his stance with a stern reminder: “Anyone who runs from our deputies will be caught and taken to jail.”…
