LUBBOCK, TX (KLBK) – KLBK Meteorologist Leah Rodriguez has your Saturday evening weather update for September 20, 2025.
Tonight: Mostly clear. Low of 68°. Winds S 10 MPH.
Tomorrow: Mostly clear. High of 94°. Winds W 10-15 MPH, a few gusts near 20 MPH.
TONIGHT:
Isolated showers will come to an end this evening after sunset. Conditions will be fairly calm for the majority of the KLBK viewing area with mostly clear skies and winds from the south around 10 MPH. Storm activity is expected to ramp up to our northeast near Silverton, Turkey, and Childress starting around 5AM. A cluster of storms will be moving out of the Texas Panhandle and is expected to clip those areas with heavy rain, lightning, and thunder; severe weather is not expected. That northeast corner is the only area expected to have rain tonight, and their activity is expected to be mostly over by sunrise. By the morning, temperatures will have made their way primarily into the 60s. Areas to the east and south of Lubbock will start their morning in the mid-60s.

SUNDAY:
Unfortunately, afternoon temperatures will become even warmer tomorrow. Mostly sunny skies will allow highs to reach the mid and upper 90s around the area. Winds will be from the west with speeds between 10 to 15 MPH, and a few gusts near 20 MPH are possible. Another round of isolated showers and storms is possible off the Caprock between 4 PM and 6 PM. Again, these showers are not expected to be severe. Once that activity dies off, the rest of the evening will be quiet for the area.

EXTENDED FORECAST:
Monday is officially the first day of astronomical fall, but temperatures will be feeling nothing like it. Highs reach their hottest in the week ahead on Monday afternoon, when temperatures will be near record heat. In fact, the hottest temperature in Lubbock on September 22nd was recorded in 1977 at 98 degrees. Luckily, a cold front will be on its way to relieve us of that horrible heat. The front is expected to arrive in Lubbock by early Tuesday morning, and the front will have moved through the entirety of the KLBK viewing area by 12 PM Tuesday. The cooler air behind it will largely influence our temperatures through Thursday. Temps become a bit warmer on Friday before more clouds and stray showers cool things down again next Saturday. As great as temperatures look through the back half of the week, we are still forecasting mostly above-average temperatures for this time of the year.
