50th Heritage Apple Festival serves up flavor and history in Molalla

Annual event one of the highlights on Molalla Historical Society’s calendar

Pies were on the mind of Helen Stemple in the late morning sunshine enveloping Molalla on Saturday.

Stemple, who’d driven into Molalla on Sept. 20 to check out this year’s Heritage Apple Festival at the Dibble House from her home near Lake Oswego, was on a mission. And thanks to the Molalla Historical Society’s 50th Apple Festival, that mission was about to be fulfilled.

“I saw this in the paper and thought it was worth checking out,” Stemple said. “I do love my pies and a good apple pie with ice cream is one of my favs, so thought I’d see what there is to see and taste here. I’m definitely going home with a pie or two, but I’ve enjoyed all the other fun and interesting things here. Love the history they have preserved and are teaching, so glad I came.”

And that seemed to be the vibe Saturday – fun, food and plenty of interesting things to learn and experience at the Dibble House complex. From an old threshing machine to a chance to churn butter, the Heritage Apple Festival offered a little something for everyone, as well as a chance to assist the historical society…
