Empire State Plaza gets millions and residents urged to ‘dream big’

ALBANY— The unified stomps of 28 pairs of feet echo across white tiles. Using their reflections in glass walls as a mirror, the 28 girls who make up the Chyna Dollz Dance Company pinwheel their arms, swivel, and clap. They land perfect splits on the marbled floor.

“Five, 6, 7, 8, hit it, hit it, hit it!” barks DeeDee Kelly, an Albany resident who runs the step dance team.

The dancers, ages 5 to 18, have tried practicing elsewhere. They’ve danced at an old firehouse, a rented studio in Troy, and in public parks. But nowhere suits them quite like the Empire State Concourse, the subterranean sister of the sprawling Empire State Plaza complex that’s adjacent to New York’s Capitol…
