WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools are taking another step to address their ongoing budget crisis — furloughing staff members in an effort to save money.
Over the weekend, employees received furlough notices following a Board of Education decision on August 19 to generate $1.6 million in savings for the district.
According to the district, furloughs will impact:
- Most Central Office employees
- All district administrators
- Non-school-based instructional support personnel
- Classified staff in the Administrative Building
- Maintenance and facilities employees
- Transportation employees
- Other operational staff
The district says the number of unpaid days will depend on employee salary, ranging from five to 12 furlough days…
