National Geographic TV host promotes diversity at book signing

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Hundreds of bird lovers gathered in East Lansing on Saturday for a book signing that highlighted the importance of diversifying bird watching.

Christian Cooper, a National Geographic TV host, went viral 5 years ago after a video of him being racially profiled at a park in New York was shared online.

Since then, Cooper has used his platform to promote inclusion and diversity.

“I’ve been all about equality for queer people, justice for black people, and birds for all people. And so what the memoir gave me was an opportunity to put that in context,” Cooper said while discussing “Better Living Through Birding: Notes from a Black Man in the Natural World.”…
