La Retama Library event celebrates Native American culture through ‘Pow-Wow 101’ experience

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — La Retama Library brought Native American traditions to life with “Pow-Wow 101,” a special event that welcomed dancers and offered the community a chance to experience Native culture up close.

Attendees had a rare opportunity to learn about the rich stories and significance behind each dance, right inside the library. The event also explored the proper etiquette and the meaning of practices that have been passed down through generations.

“Most of our Pow-Wows are open to the public. We like for people to attend, and doing that dispels stereotypes. It shows people who Native people really are… they get to see us, they get to see us how we are, how we celebrate. You know, we are just like normal people. We just have those traditions, those values, that culture that’s been around for a very long time,” Anthony Falcon of the Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas said…
