Storm Track 3 Forecast: Cold front brings strong to severe storms Monday night

Scattered showers and a few stronger storms will fester over Eastern and especially Southeastern Kansas through early tonight. This wave will track away.

Temperatures overnight drop to the 50s closer to the Colorado state line and the 60s for the rest of us.

A rather potent storm system will approach on Monday. For much of the day, there will be a lid over the atmosphere, suppressing thunderstorm development until early evening.

Once the atmosphere unzips, storms will quickly become severe starting in the northwest and tracking to the east/southeast.

The whole state is under a Marginal Risk with a Slight Risk just southwest of Wichita. The Slight Risk will have more severe thunderstorms capable of large hail and damaging winds.

There is an area highlighted for a low tornado probability along the Kansas/Oklahoma state line.

The threat for severe weather will carry into the overnight, so it is important to have ways of receiving warnings while sleeping into Tuesday morning.

Highs will heat up into the 80s Monday before cooling to the 70s by Tuesday.

Remaining clouds and scattered rain Tuesday into Wednesday will keep temps down.

Some highs on Wednesday fall short of hitting 70 degrees. Thursday through the weekend looks dry and absolutely beautiful.

Temps in the mornings turn crisp with some near the Colorado state line dipping into the 40s before warming back to the 70s in the afternoons.

Next opportunity for rain holds off until the middle of the following week.
