Earthquake Shakes San Francisco Bay Area

A 4.3 magnitude earthquake jolted the San Francisco Bay Area from its slumber early Monday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The quake, centered just east-southeast of Berkeley, struck shortly before 3:00 a.m.

PT. Over 22,000 people reported feeling the temblor to the USGS.

Social media lit up with reports of shaking homes. Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) announced on X, formerly Twitter, that trains were operating at reduced speeds while mandatory track inspections were conducted, warning commuters of potential systemwide delays of up to 20 minutes.

San Francisco Mayor Dan Lurie addressed the incident online, stating that first responders were assessing the city for any impact and that an update would be provided later in the day. KTVU-TV news anchor Dave Clark also took to social media, describing the surprise in the newsroom as the quake struck.

Reports indicate the earthquake was felt as far south as Salinas, approximately 100 miles from the epicenter. Authorities have not yet released information regarding potential injuries or significant damage.
