Do you have questions or concerns about the proposed second gas-fired power plant in Fluvanna County? Fluvanna Horizons Alliance, a neighborhood advocacy group, is holding a community meeting tonight to give residents a chance to discuss the project’s potential impact on public health and the environment and learn ways to get involved.
Nebraska-based energy company Tenaska has proposed a second, $2 billion plant as an expansion of its existing facility on Branch Rd. near Scottsville. Read more about the project, including noise concerns raised by residents, from the Fluvanna Review.
Tenaska plans to construct the facility on roughly 50 acres within its 425-acre property, according to project details posted on the Expedition Generating Station website. It would be supplied with natural gas through the Transco pipeline and generate up to 1.5 gigawatts, or enough electricity to power 1.5 million homes. Construction could begin in 2027 if the company secures all necessary permits, according to Tenaska’s website.
