SCOTLAND- Pennsylvania State Police say a Florida man was incredulous when confronted about suspected drugs found on him after he was pulled over for driving in a suspected stolen vehicle. Renato Cela of Port Saint Lucie, FL, was charged on Saturday with felony receiving stolen property, misdemeanor DUI, misdemeanor possession of controlled substances, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and three traffic citations. He has since been lodged at the Franklin County Jail after failing to post bail of $50,000.
Around 4:11pm on Saturday, September 20th, Pennsylvania State Police were contacted by their dispatch to advise that a reported stolen car was traveling northbound on I-81 from Maryland into the state. After positioning themselves for a stop, they would encounter the vehicle pull off the interstate in Scotland, drive through the stop sign at PA-696 and the off ramp, and continue onto Olde Scotland Road northbound. A felony traffic stop would be executed by multiple officers, with the vehicle complying.
Troopers say they identified the driver as Renato Cela of Florida after he was taken into custody. PSP say that he had “a clear bag of white powder residue containing illicit controlled substances” in his pocket, as well as suspected psychedelic mushrooms, marijuana, a grinder, butane lighter, and a glass smoking device in his car.
