Former Oconto Memorial Hospital could have future as ghost hunting site

OCONTO – Think of how many spirits might linger in an old hospital. The former Oconto Memorial Hospital in Oconto could become the next place to explore for ghost hunters seeking the thrill of investigating old buildings if Adam Moede of Suring succeeds in persuading the city to allow paranormal tours there.

“I love history. I love old buildings. I love the natural decay inside of them; it’s beautiful,” said Moede, who volunteers at Fox Valley Ghost Hunters paranormal tours. During tours, paying guests explore dark hallways, creepy closets and a morgue at an old asylum. They might hear the sounds of footsteps, echoes and distant wails.

Craig Nehring, founder at Fox Valley Ghost Hunters, estimated paranormal tours at the Oconto hospital could bring in about $100,000 in revenue. At the Sheboygan Asylum in Sheboygan Falls, pricing is $59 a person for three-hour paranormal tours from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and from 11 p.m to 2 a.m. The location has generated about $300,000 in revenue, Nehring said…
