Jimmy Kimmel Returns to Late-Night After Suspension Over Charlie Kirk Remarks

Following a brief hiatus, Jimmy Kimmel is set to return to his late-night show on Tuesday. The show’s suspension stemmed from controversial comments Kimmel made about conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s death and the subsequent arrest of 22-year-old Tyler Robinson.

ABC pulled “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” from its schedule indefinitely last Wednesday following pressure from the FCC and affiliate stations.

The network cited the need to de-escalate tensions surrounding the sensitive situation. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr had publicly criticized Kimmel’s remarks, suggesting potential repercussions for the network.

Kimmel’s comments, made during a segment on his show, targeted those who attempted to distance the suspect from the “MAGA” movement. Several ABC affiliates, including those owned by Nexstar Communications Group, deemed the comments offensive. Former President Donald Trump praised ABC’s decision to suspend the show.

The suspension sparked a wave of criticism, with some, including former President Barack Obama, labeling the move as “cancel culture” and a dangerous precedent for government interference with the media.

While Kimmel’s return to ABC has been confirmed, it remains uncertain whether major affiliate groups like Nexstar and Sinclair will also broadcast the show. Sinclair has reportedly demanded an apology and donations to Kirk’s family and Turning Point USA before resuming broadcasts.
