Suspect in Custody Following Non-Fatal Northeast DC Shooting During Attempted Robbery

A 17-year-old male from Suitland, Maryland has been taken into custody by the Metropolitan Police Department in connection with a shooting during an attempted robbery last Saturday evening in Northeast Washington, D.C. The incident resulted in two people, including the suspect, being injured.

As per the Metropolitan Police Department release, at approximately 10:24 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire on the 200 block of 8th Street, Northeast. They located an adult male victim who had been shot and was conscious and breathing. A second individual with a gunshot wound was found on the 400 block of 9th Street, Northeast and was identified as the suspected assailant. Both were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect confronted the victim and demanded belongings at gunpoint. After the victim initially complied, the suspect allegedly demanded the cellphone be unlocked, leading to a physical struggle during which the firearm discharged, injuring both individuals…
