Bronx murder suspect dies by suicide at Rikers; family says system failed him, files lawsuit

A Bronx man accused of fatally shooting his building superintendent and wounding two others never made it to trial. His family saying he died by suicide on Rikers Island.

Police say 44-year-old Jimmy Avila surrendered hours after the shooting, which happened Aug. 27 at 1412 College Ave.

Avila called News 12 to say he felt threatened and failed by the system. Less than a day after his arraignment, he died by suicide at Rikers Island…
